I'm Doug, and I'm Made For More.

image of dougThe opportunity to serve high schoolers has been a tremendous honor. Seeing young men grow in their faith—and in general—is both fascinating and rewarding. Trying to relate to people of another generation, who do not know you at first, can be frustrating. And giving so much effort without receiving much thanks from them can easily agitate me sometimes.

But then my co-leader, Jack, who is in my men's Bible study group and had the idea to serve at InsideOut before me, and I see the slow benefits of the many small deposits we’ve made over time. Seeing God work on his time and in such impressionable young men is worth all of the hours and the frustrations.

Also, high schoolers are a ton of fun. The energy they bring is palpable, and IO creates a great environment to release that supernova. Serving high schoolers is such an exercise in faith and patience, but it is a way to pay forward all the investments made in me when I was a kid. I thank God for this opportunity and for all of the support and encouragement from our director, Justin, and my fellow IO volunteers.

You are Made For More, too. Volunteering in our church is one way you can discover the more you are made for. Ready to find out what you were made for?
