Care Bags for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta
An opportunity to partner with Lighthouse Family Retreat
Join us as we partner with Lighthouse Family Retreat to create care bags for parents, patients, and/or nurses on the Pediatric Oncology floor at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA). These gift bags are such a treat for kids and/or their parents who must stay at the hospital overnight or, in some cases, for long periods of time. They can also help brighten a nurse's day and put a smile on their face after a tough shift.
Here is an example of the type and size of white gift bags that are preferred.
Decide if you would like to create a care bag for a kid/patient, parent, or nurse. Purchase 8–12 items from the care bag idea list and put them in the bag. All items must be new!
Print and color a "Thinking of You" card or create your own and include the card in the bag with a short message from you/your family. Messages should be limited to something simple:
- We're thinking of you!
- I hope this helps brighten your day!
- You are loved!
- You are our hero! (For nurses)
- We appreciate you! (For nurses)
Please avoid references to cancer, sympathy, or illness. We want these messages to be encouraging and upbeat! Hospital policy also prohibits referencing Bible verses or using religious language in the messaging. A Lighthouse brochure will be included in the bags if a family would like to learn more.
Have some fun and be creative decorating the outside of the bags! Each bag should fit 8–12 items. These bags will be distributed at various times of the year, so please avoid decorating for the seasons or using dates on either the tags or the bags.
Bring your completed bag to Decatur City on October 6, and drop off in the designated box for the type of bag you created.
